John Bodine
John Bodine (Bordine) was possibly born in North Carolina, married Nancy Gunnels in 1810
in Oglethorpe County GA, was wounded during U. S. Navy service under Oliver Hazard
Perry on Lake Erie in the War of 1812, convalesced in Baltimore MD where he has a second
wife, returned to Georgia, emigrated with his growing family to San Augustine TX in 1824-25,
served as Alcalde (sheriff) in the early territorial government, and died there on August 10,
1839, shot in a land boundary dispute.
He was wounded in a major War of 1812 battle, and a year later was in Baltimore during the
1814 Fort McHenry bombardment.
His descendents carried the given names John and Perry through several generations.
